On the sunny morning of 14th April 2026, Kuen Cheng High School conducted a fire drill to ensure that all students and staff were familiar with emergency evacuation procedures. At 11:15am the shrill blare of the fire alarm cut through the morning lessons, signaling the start of the drill.
Upon hearing the alarm, students immediately stopped their activities and prepared to evacuate their classrooms in an orderly manner. Class monitors and teachers guided their classes calmly, following the “High floors Higher Number staircase, Lower floors Lower Number staircase” rule. This actually means students on the higher floors go toward the marked staircase for higher floors, and the same applies to the students in the lower floors who would use the marked staircase for lower floors to ensure an efficient evacuation.
Despite the large number of pupils, students managed to reach the assembly areas with immense speed. Class monitors conducted headcounts upon arrival at the assembly area to confirm that all students were present. Students in Block C classes were gathered at the red brick assembly area while students from Block A and B were gathered at the outdoor parking site. Students from Junior One were gathered at the basketball court to undergo simple fire drill training.

During the evacuation process, St. John Ambulance club members were there to help with any injuries or health complications that may occur during the drill. Firefighters were also at the scene to assist and educate our students on the fire drill procedures. More interesting, this group of Junior One students were given an educational lesson on “How to use a fire extinguisher”.

After the drill, the Discipline Department teachers addressed the school, commending students for their cooperation and attentiveness. They also highlighted a few areas for improvement, such as maintaining silence during evacuation and moving more quickly when following the line.
Overall, the fire drill was successful in reinforcing safety awareness and ensuring that everyone understood the correct procedures to follow in the event of an actual emergency.
