On 18 April 2026, the Kuen Cheng History Department organised a field study to introduce students to diverse and unique cultures. Three Senior One Art classes were involved in this activity, and Sr1B was selected to visit Masjid Jamek Cina Muslim Klang. The project was led by three History Teachers including Ms Chong Kwe Moi, Ms Chow Kah Yin, and Mr Mun Zhen Shang.
A total of fifty-one students from Sr1B were instructed to gather at the Red Brick Zone, located next to the school canteen. At approximately 8:00 a.m., the buses departed for their destination. Upon arrival, students and teachers were greeted by the stunning sight of the traditional Chinese architecture.
One of the tour guides, Ms Atiqah, has kindly reminded the students to remove their shoes before entering the mosque, as it is a place of prayer. Four tour guides also assisted the female students in putting on a plain light blue tudung (a headscarf worn by Muslim women), followed by a navy blue baju kurung, while the male students sat patiently, waiting for the tour to begin.
The tour then began, with students divided into two groups heading in different directions. They were led through a long hallway lined with rooms serving various purposes, such as the prayer room, funeral parlour, and meeting room. At the centre of the mosque stood a tall structure known as the “望月楼” (Moon Gazing Pavilion), which immediately caught the students’ attention and sparked their curiosity. Ms Atiqah took time to explain the traditions and cultural practices associated with the mosque.
“The lines between religion and race must be clearly distinguished,” said Mr Joan, another tour guide, who also shared his personal experiences, particularly regarding his journey of changing religions.
At the end of the tour, the students of Sr1B returned to Kuen Cheng High School with a deeper understanding of this unique yet relatable culture. This field study was an enriching experience, giving all participating students a valuable opportunity to broaden their understanding of different cultures.
