In conjunction with the spirit of the Malay Week, the Kuen Cheng Academic Affairs organised a Five Stones competition on 18th May 2026, from 8:00a.m. to 9:30a.m., for the bright-eyed Junior One students, aiming to enhance their hand-eye coordination, focus, and confidence.

At 8:00 a.m. sharp, the students gathered in the multi-purpose complex for attendance before the competition. Before the event began, each participant took out their set of five stones, preparing themselves for the challenge ahead. The host split the participants into groups of 4 to 5 students according to the name list. The students then sat together in a circle accompanied by a student organiser.

As the competition intensified, the participants showed remarkable control over their hand movements. With full focus, they tossed one stone in the air while swiftly taking all the other stones before catching the last one just at the right moment. Their fingers moved quickly and steadily showing their perfect rhythm and coordination. Each failure of catching the stone was a lesson to help them improve their skills. As the levels increased, the cheers grew louder, encouraging the participants to keep going.

The competitive atmosphere pushed the students to their limits, everyone was giving their all as they threw the stones in the air and caught them with nimble precision. After fifteen minutes of intensity and nervousness filling the air, the competition reached its final stage. With the scores neck-and-neck, every participant gave their best shot, hoping to claim the championship title.

At last, the competition ended. This was followed by the award ceremony, where Chua Ming Xuan (JR1Z5) won first place. Through this challenging but wonderful experience, not only did it enhance the participants’ appreciation to traditional games, it also showed the students to never underestimate their abilities. Some participants who were struggling to catch one stone in the beginning managed to catch all the stones at the end of the game. This proves that if you are determined nothing is impossible in the world.
