To showcase the vocal talents among students, Kuen Cheng High School English Department organised the Singing Competition Grand Finale on the 11th of July 2026 in the school auditorium. Held as part of English Week, the competition provided students with an opportunity to express themselves through the English language while demonstrating their passion and confidence in singing. The competition was open to students from Junior 1 to Senior 3, attracting talented performers from various year levels.
Before the competition commenced, Vice Principal Mr Tan Yong Chin delivered an opening speech, expressing his appreciation to the organising committee for their hard work and dedication in making the event possible. This was followed by speeches from Ms Vinodhini A/P Vennoo, Head of the English Department, and Ms Lyra, who introduced this year’s English Week theme, “Tourism.” They also shared their memorable experiences and the meaningful friendships they had built throughout the preparation of English Week.

Following the opening ceremony, the finalists from the solo category took to the stage with captivating performances. The first contestant, Brittany Tang, performed “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. Her powerful vocals and confident stage presence inspired the audience with a message of courage and self-acceptance. Next, Ian Lee performed “Pluto Projector” by Rex Orange County. Accompanying himself on the guitar, he delivered a heartfelt performance with warm vocals that captivated the audience from beginning to end.
The third finalist, Cadence Chong, sang “How Far I’ll Go” by Auli’i Cravalho. Her expressive vocals and energetic performance beautifully conveyed the song’s adventurous spirit. Following her was Xin Yu, who performed “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman. With her clear, heartfelt voice and emotional delivery, she conveyed the song’s inspiring message of hope and determination. The final soloist, Peh Li, concluded the category with “Speechless” by Naomi Scott. Her strong vocals, emotional expression, and commanding stage presence perfectly reflected the song’s themes of courage and resilience.
Moving on to the second part of the competition — the duet category — Starlit commenced with “For Good” from Wicked, captivating the audience with their harmonious vocals as they conveyed the song’s heartfelt message of appreciation and enduring friendship. Next up, D Smiley Face delivered an extraordinary performance of Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” leaving the audience in awe of their vocals. Following that, Bluejays — who sang “Space Between” from Descendants 2 — held the audience spellbound, with many gently waving their hands as they immersed themselves in the performance.
In contrast to the previous act, Doremi brought a lively change of pace with an uplifting rendition of “Lemon Tree” by Fools Garden. Their energetic stage presence had the audience clapping along to the rhythm, while the performers sang with enthusiasm, creating a cheerful and engaging atmosphere throughout the hall. Next up, The Singers delivered an outstanding rendition of “How Far I’ll Go” by Auli’i Cravalho, mesmerizing the audience with their powerful vocals. Last but not least, We Thought This Was Spelling Bee concluded the duet category with a remarkable rendition of “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban. Their heartfelt vocals beautifully conveyed the song’s uplifting message, as a sea of hands swayed gently to the rhythm, creating a touching and memorable finale.
While the judges were busy calculating the final results of the singing competition, Miss Amanda and Miss Audra from the English Department surprised the audience with a special performance of “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson. Confidence radiated from both the teachers on the stage, and their infectious energy had the audience clapping along to the beat and singing every word with them.
As anticipation filled the hall, everyone turned their attention to the much-awaited announcement of the competition results and the subsequent award ceremony. In the solo category, Sea Xin Yu was named the second runner-up, while Ian Lee secured the first runner-up title. Cadence Chong emerged as the champion, accepting the trophy with a bright smile on her face. As for the duet category, Bluejays claimed the second runner-up title, followed by We Thought This Was Spelling Bee as the first runner-up. Finally, amid loud applause and enthusiastic cheers from the audience, Doremi was crowned the duet category champion, bringing the competition to an exciting and memorable conclusion.
