Kuen Cheng High School French Club, Japanese Language Society and the Korean Language Club work together to organize the International Week, biannually, to promote understanding of different cultures and traditions. The 21st of July 2025 marked the beginning of this year’s International Week, with an exciting opening ceremony just right outside the school hall.

The ceremony began with a speech from the Principal, Madam Chua Lee Lee. She expressed her heartfelt thanks to the committee for their tremendous effort and dedication in preparing for the event. Madam Principal continued to share that on the 23rd of July, students from Tokyo Jogakkan High School, Japan will be arriving at Kuen Cheng High School for a cultural exchange. Finally, she ended her speech by encouraging students to actively participate in the activities of the week, and she hopes that we can cultivate a harmonious and diverse community in all the years to come.

Soon after, it was time for performances brought to us by the members of the French Club, Japanese Language Society and Korean Language Club. It started with a French song titled “l’amour, les baguettes, Paris”. “L’amour” means love in French, “les baguettes” as in the French bread, and finally Paris, the City of Love in France. The two students sang while one played the guitar. Each strum and note encapsulated the bittersweet feeling of the song.

Following that, members of the Korean Language Club brought out an exciting KPOP performance with the song “Plot Twist” by TWS. This song is about the thrill of a first meeting with someone that did not go as planned, hence the name, plot twist. This song brings a refreshing vibe, hyping up the crowd with each beat.

Finally, the Japanese Language Society members wore traditional Japanese kimonos for a final performance. They sang the song ‘Fireworks’, which explores the themes of young love and missed opportunities over summertime. The song was accompanied by drums and piano, bringing out a contrast in sounds of the song.

With the Japanese Language Society’s performance, the opening ceremony had come to an end. However, this is just the beginning of many interesting activities and games that await us this week.
