On the windy afternoon of 19th May 2025, the atmosphere at Kuen Cheng High School was filled with excitement. As soon as school ended at 3:00 p.m. sharp, students from Junior 3 and Senior 3 began gathering at the A-Block ground floor, dressed in their PE t-shirts and track pants, ready to represent their classes in the much-anticipated annual teacher-student tug-of-war competition.

This exclusive event is held only for Junior 3 and Senior 3 students, along with their chosen teacher representatives. Each class selected a teacher to lead and guide them throughout the event. These teachers weren’t just bystanders—they played a crucial role in strategizing, motivating, and supporting their students. The teamwork between students and teachers brought a whole new level of energy to the competition and deepened the bond between them in a way that regular classes couldn’t.

Even though the sky was gloomy and it started raining before the event began, the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. In fact, the light rain and strong breeze added a dramatic flair to the atmosphere. Everyone remained hyped and determined, proving that their excitement and team spirit could withstand any weather.

Right in the center of the red brick area on the ground floor, a long thick rope with a red ribbon tied at the middle was laid out. Each side of the rope had black tape lines to indicate the winning zones. After the organizing committee gave a clear explanation of the rules, the competition officially began.
The first match was between Jr3Z(4) and Jr3Z(5), following a best-of-three format. Each round had 8 players from each team, and for the first round, the male students from each class took the lead. As soon as the whistle blew, the rope tensed and the shouting began. “One, two! One, two!”—both teams chanted in sync, pulling with all their might. The energy was electric, with classmates cheering loudly and teachers encouraging their students from the sidelines.

An interesting observation was that some teams came well-prepared with gloves, while others chose to go without. Despite their differences in preparation, all teams gave it their all, showing true determination and grit. When asked what their strategy was, most winning teams simply answered: “Unity and trust.” That alone was their greatest weapon.
The teachers’ involvement was one of the highlights of the event. Not only did they offer moral support, but they also helped plan the team’s pulling order, gave advice based on practice sessions, and stood side by side with the students in moments of tension and celebration. This collaboration brought teachers and students closer, building a sense of teamwork that extended beyond academics. It was a rare chance for students to see their teachers as partners, not just instructors.

Let’s cheer them on as they head into the final battle, representing not only their strength, but also the unity, trust, and teamwork that brought them this far.
