The English Language Society held an escape room activity from the 11th – 13th of June 2025. It was themed ‘The Vanishing Hour’, scary yet exciting. As it was the first time the school had held such an activity, many students took part, wanting to get a fright while working together to uncover the truth. This exciting event took place as part of the annual English Week celebration!
After Lady Eleanor Blackwood’s death, strange things began to happen, soon three choir boys mysteriously vanished. As brave investigators, players entered the abandoned Blackwood Manor — a dark room decorated with past records of choir club and old frames encasing portraits. Players were given 30 minutes to find out what had happened, reveal the truth and escape the manor.

Despite the challenging and tough puzzles, players racked their brains and worked together to solve the mystery. The escape room experience included four rounds: “The Foyer”, “Blackwood’s Keepsakes”, “The Lady’s Warning”and ”The Clock Strikes Hollow”. With careful observation and smart thinking, players collected clues to work out the codes and discover hidden meanings, getting steps closer to discovering the truth.

At the end of the activity, each player was awarded a themed bookmark regardless if they were successful or not. Players who managed to escape without using more than two hints within the allocated time were given a keychain. Through this experience, players were able to use their logical thinking and investigating skills while creating new memories together.
