On the 8th of June, the Kuen Cheng Commerce Club held a briefing regarding a Planting Workshop. The workshop was to be held from the 20th of June to the 28th of July where participants would be able to grow their very own cherry tomato plants.
The briefing started off with an introduction by the speaker, Chai Huey Lynn. She stated that the aim of the workshop was to let participants experience the satisfaction of growing their own plants, and learn how to protect their greens. Overall, the organizer hoped to raise greater awareness about the importance of protecting the planet and its environment.
Moving on, the speaker gave a step-by-step explanation on how participants are supposed to grow and take care of their cherry tomato plants. Firstly, participants must place some soil into the given pot. Next, participants must dig a small hole to place the cherry tomato seeds in. Then, the hole must be covered with remaining soil before fertilizer is placed. Lastly, the plant should be watered daily to ensure that the soil is always moist. However, participants must make sure that the soil is dry before watering each day. The speaker also reminded the participants to fertilize the soil every fortnight and place the plant under the sunlight instead of in a shady area.
How to Grow a Cherry Tomato Plant
Each participant will be given supplies provided by the Commerce Club to grow their cherry tomato plants. Things such as cherry tomato seeds, soil, fertilizer and a pot will be distributed to the participants by the club members. Participants are required to pay RM5 to the club treasurer (Teh Min Vei, Sr3ComA) by 15th June. While the majority part of the fee will be used to purchase the planting materials and supply, the club hopes to donate the remaining profit towards Chinese primary schools in rural villages to buy books and stationery.

By the end of the event, participants have to upload pictures of their grown plant to a Google Form. The Event Committee will then deliberate and vote for the best looking plant. The top three participants as well as two honorable mentions will earn certificates and their achievement will be documented on the Student’s Performance Record. The rest of the participants will be given an e-certificate and also get records on the Student’s Performance Record.
