Kuen Cheng High School organised a two-day orientation programme on February 14 and 15 for the Junior Middle One students. This event aimed to help new students acclimate to their environment, understand school policies, and foster connections with peers and teachers.
On the first day, each student received a guidebook about the school and events schedule. They were also provided with a reading card as well as breakfast. Then, they were briefed on the school’s song and the school’s administrative functions. Coming up, the students had an ice-breaking session. They also participated in a few activities to have a better understanding of their new friends and classmates. Next, the students sat in on a talk about the school culture and what to expect in their school years ahead. The Principal, Admin Heads of the Discipline Department, Academic Department, Counselling Department, Co-curricular Department as well as the ICT Department welcomed the new batch of students and delivered important messages with regards to the upcoming academic year.
On the second day, the students participated in more events and games. These games, which have further helped the students close the gap between their teachers and friends, included:
1. )Bomb lines: This game was about the students playing rock, paper and scissors. Then whoever wins gets to take a tile and put it inside the bar. Whichever team has five lines wins.
2. )Chinese radicals:Using the Chinese radicals (部首 bushou; section header) and have to form words that can be formed with that particular radical. Whichever team that can make the most Chinese characters with the radicals wins.
3. )Red light, green light: This game challenges the students’ teamwork and cooperation. Two students have to tie their legs together and have to walk to the other end of the space given and make a bracelet. Their movement will be restricted by a traffic controller that stops them from moving. The team that makes the most bracelets wins.
4. )Risk Chess: This game involves two representatives, each from two classes to compete with each other. They need to get to their designated spot by answering the questions correctly and rolling this dice.
