            On the 25th of April 2025, many senior students gathered in the C9 activities room to learn more about the education system and requirements for pursuing further education in the United States and Australia. Many rows of seats awaited the students, signalling the start of the talk.

            The talk began with Miss NIcole asking the audience a question about the capital of Australia. Then, she proceeded with introducing the universities in Australia. She also introduced the “Group of Eight” universities in Australia, some of which include University of Sydney, University of Melbourne and many more. Next, Miss Nicole spoke about the living cost and tuition fees in Australia which is around 29710 AUD. To work in Australia, she also further mentioned that a visa is needed. Australia stays proud of their working benefits and rights which are 24.10 AUD per hour.

            Then, Miss Nicole mentioned about the education pathways to Australia. The available education pathways to Australia are after pre-university, having a credit transfer, after undergraduate degree and postgraduate. The entry requirements for each Australian university is having great UEC results, taking their pre-requisite subject which is English and taking the aptitude test. The document checklist when applying to any Australian university is proof of English language proficiency as well as other supporting documents. Of course, it is important to choose the right institution for the course you want to study. So, Miss Nicole continued to share the university’s entry requirement, budget and scholarships available, admission deadlines as well as working opportunities. Then, the microphone was passed to Miss Angel for further talk about studies in the USA.

            Miss Angel, who is currently the AUG senior education consultant, began her talk on further education in the USA. Similarly to Miss Nicole, Miss Angel began her talk by introducing the USA and explaining the various reasons as to study in the USA, including the fact that the USA is home to 7 of the Top 10 universities in the world. She then introduced the students to the education system in universities, basically consisting of 4 years of study, being freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.

            Miss Angel then went on to explain the basic cost of living in the USA, mainly university tuition fees and daily necessities such as transport and food. She continued to highlight the various scholarships available in the USA, and tried to pique the interest of the students. She further delved into the multitude of education pathways that may lead you into studying in the USA, from community colleges to UEC examinations. Finally, she gave a short and sweet recap on the documents and paperwork needed for a student to be legally allowed to study in the USA, with students requiring a student visa, a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) depending on your chosen course, and a IELTS score of at least 6.5 or a TOEFL score of at least 80 iBT. Beyond academic performance, universities in the USA also value strong participation in extracurricular activities, as colleges in the USA will take a look at the student’s achievements and reference letters too.

            By the end of this presentation, students have a better understanding of the key aspects of pursuing further studies in both the United States and Australia. This talk offered valuable advice on choosing a study location from various perspectives. As a final treat, the speakers distributed small gifts to the students. In conclusion, the talk was both informative and up-to-date for all attendees.
