On the 9th of July 2025, a warm and imposing opening ceremony signalled the official opening of the Chinese Education Week. The Chinese Education Week, held annually, brings a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of learning and commemorate our ancestors who have sacrificed themselves to protect Chinese education in Malaysia. Kicking off with the Yingge Dance (英歌舞, a traditional Chinese cultural dance) and the 24 Festive Drums performance, the strong and powerful performances presented a grand opening for the event.

The opening ceremony then continued as the Principal of Kuen Cheng High School, Madam Chua Lee Lee, gave her speech. Madam Chua began by thanking our ancestors who have stood firm on their commitments to building a complete education system by using the mother tongue, Chinese, as a prime medium. This has provided students with the wonderful opportunity to learn Chinese freely, while also enabling teachers, committee members, and clubs to host events that celebrate and promote the language and its culture. She stressed the importance of passing on Chinese education to future generations and hopes that students build confidence in their own culture.

Madam Chua then proceeded to press the sun projected on the LED screen on stage, symbolising the dedication of our ancestors to building up the Chinese education system.

To carry on, the School Choir performed a song named “One Seed” (一颗种籽), expressing gratitude to those who contributed to making Chinese education possible in Malaysia. Finally, an original piece named “The Story of a Tree” (树的故事), composed by our Music Composing Society, was performed to put a beautiful ending to the opening ceremony. Let us hope that Chinese Education will continue to pass on to future generations, and nurture students to become people who are proud of their own culture.
