On 22nd of April 2025, a talk was held for students of Senior Middle One, Two and Three in the MML Lab. The purpose of the talk was to provide students who are interested in studying abroad, to Japan in particular, with the right information to graduate successfully.

At the start of the talk, the speaker shared that many students did not have the correct information when it comes to studying abroad which caused them precious time and money.

Next, he introduced the fascinating parts of Japan. He claimed that certain parts of Japanese culture are similar to Chinese culture. Besides, Japan was also known for their extraordinary view during specific seasons which we can admire during our studies. The safety in Japan is also worth taking note since locally, firearms were prohibited. Furthermore, Japan is also notable for their fascinating scenery as well as their calming nature with four seasons. The food in Japan is also famous around the world.

Following, it was the part students wanted to know the most, school fees and scholarship. The fees for local and private universities were roughly RM16,000 and RM50,000 per year. Although the fees for private universities might be considerably more expensive, part-time jobs were allowed in Japan which could possibly cover half of the fees and everyday expenses. In terms of scholarship, the Daihatsu scholarship can be applied with a SPM straight A’s result covering 100% tuition fees of any university in Japan as well as approximately RM4,000 monthly allowance for students. Besides, They strongly recommended the students to apply for the MEXT scholarship. This scholarship covers all tuition fees as well as living expenses. The scholarship is offered to students with good grades and active records in school activities. The screening process of this scholarship is a document screening, written examination and an interview. The best part of it was that the scholarship does not include any mandatory service or employment commitment following graduation.

After that, the talk continued with the requirements to study in Japan. The counsellor emphasised that students who intend to study in Japan have to have at least 150 hours of Japanese language learning experience or a N5 certificate. Lastly, they had a Q & A session with the students. They also reiterated to the students to contact their organisation (JAGAM) if they require any assistance.

Before the talk ended, all students were given a brochure. As the session came to an end, it was clear that studying in Japan isn’t just about education, but it is about expanding your world. Whether it is language, the innovation, or the culture that draws you in, the journey begins with a single decision. Perhaps, for some in the audience, that decision starts today.
