On the 7th of February 2026, flocks of students headed inside Kuen Cheng High School to celebrate our annual Chinese New Year festivities. One such event held on that day was the events district, located in the outdoor carpark of the school, organised by a multitude of clubs and societies, all with different activities that showed off the spirit of Chinese New Year in their own whimsical manners.
Of the societies involved, there includes the Malaysia Cultural Society, Computer Club, History Society, Western Calligraphy Society, Chinese-English Debate Society, Cartoons Club, Magic Cube Society, Board Game Club, Philharmonic Orchestra, Modern Dance Society, 24 Festive Drums Club, Diabolo Club, St. John Ambulance, Air Scout and the Environmental Society.
With the Year of the Horse just around the corner, many chose to test students on their knowledge of Chinese New Year traditions. Societies such as the History Society, which operated based on a life-sized monopoly board, and the St. John Ambulance, whose activity had students throw balls into corresponding answer boxes for each question. This educated previously uninformed students about Chinese New Year customs and traditions, and explained the specific traditions and symbolic meanings associated with the Year of the Horse.

Others instead opted to design activities with inspiration from their own societies. The Board Game Club, for instance, designed a horse themed card game to test students’ strategic prowess. Other societies such as the Environmental Society, who handcrafted everything in their activities with recyclable materials, or the 24 Festive Drums Club and Philharmonic Orchestra both designed activities based on music and rhythm, which are in line with their societies talent. This showcases the specialties of each society, by uniquely blending their societal flairs with the Chinese New Year theme.
