The emcees introduced the School Choir’s advisor-teachers and coaches, who worked tirelessly to ensure tonight’s concert would be smooth sailing. The concert’s theme, “Echoes Everlasting”, signified an undying love and passion for music, trailing back all the way from 1965, when the club was first founded. This much anticipated concert was living proof that the musical passion still lived on in the voices and hearts of members of the School Choir.

The concert kicked off with a musical-esque storyline. The audience was introduced to Carmen, a young girl who had a carefree and joyous childhood, shown through a rendition of Lo Ta-yu and Sylvia Chang’s “童年 (Childhood)”. However, as Carmen left childhood behind and stepped foot into unfamiliar high school territory, she found herself lost and sullen. She started distancing herself from her friends. Yet, her friend Xiao Li talked to her and gently brought her out of her shell. After a performance of “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, her friends’ heartwarming support healed Carmen’s inner self.
With her friend’s encouragement, Carmen auditioned for the school choir. She learned to embrace high school life with welcoming arms, participating in choir activities and making new friends who were also passionate about music. Carmen’s school life took a turn for the better. As a classic Chinese song, “朋友 (Friends)” echoed around the auditorium, the audience could feel Carmen’s genuine happiness through the gaps between guitar chords. During Carmen’s choir performance rehearsal, she used her voice to express and regain her true self alongside her choirmates with the song “This is Me”.
After a 15-minute intermission, the School Choir members performed a fun acapella version of “Stand By Me”, “夜空中最亮的星 (The Brightest Star in the Night Sky)” and “我相信 (I Believe)”. The beatbox accompaniment added a special spark and truly tied the performance together. Following this romantic streak, the audience was moved by the choir’s tender performance of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”, the song we all know and love from The Lion King.
Then, the girls of the Choir sang “The Seal Lullaby” and “Song of Hope”, two angelic songs that began like whispers, but slowly grew like a flame rekindling in the dark. Afterwards, two familiar and well-known melodies, “孤勇者 (Lonely Warrior)” and “A Million Dreams”, instilled hope in the audience’s hearts with their motivating lyrics. Last but not least, the School Choir performed “Sing”, an upbeat and groovy song which was completed with numerous rounds of hand-clapping and foot-stomping onstage.
But the night was not over yet! The School Choir surprised us with an encore song which was “Happy” from Despicable Me 2. It was the perfect ending for the night as the audience bopped their heads to the catchy tune. The Choir members expressed their gratitude towards their advisor-teachers and coaches, friends and family members in the audience and all the clubs working backstage, for this concert would not have been successful without them. It is without a doubt that the audience’s thunderous applause was the best music to the School Choir’s ears. At 9:30p.m. everyone left with a smile on their faces, not forgetting to take pictures with their friends to cherish the memories of this unforgettable night!
