On 25th May 2025, in celebration of Teacher’s Day, Kuen Cheng High School held its first ever Dodgebee Competition—a thrilling event that brought together students and teachers in a game that combines elements of frisbee and dodgeball. This unique sporting occasion invited Senior 2 classes to team up with teachers from various departments, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.

A week before the competition, participating teams—Sr2ScA, Sr2ScB, Sr2ScC, Sr2ScE, Sr2ScF, Sr2ScH, Sr2B, and Sr2ComB—were given briefings and practice sessions to familiarise themselves with the rules and techniques of this new yet intriguing sport.

The event officially commenced at 10.30 a.m. with an opening announcement by the emcee, who explained the rules, regulations, and match schedule. Anticipation filled the air as teams huddled together, warming up and finalising their strategies. Each team proudly shouted their unique cheer chants, fuelling one another with adrenaline and determination to play their best.

At the sound of the whistle, round one began with two matches played simultaneously. Match 1 saw Sr2ScE face off against Sr2ScB, with their respective teachers, Mr. Tan Wu Heng and Mr. Liu Jun Jie, an assistant teacher from the physical education department. Match 2 featured Sr2B versus Sr2ScF, led by Ms Tiong Ee Pei and Mr Nick, an assistant teacher from the library department.

Emotions ran high as the frisbee soared across the court, spectators cheered words of encouragement, while players reacted swiftly with synchronised dodges. After an intense 4-minute play session, Sr2ScE and Sr2ScF emerged victorious and advanced to the next round.

Round two consisted of Match 3, with Sr2ScC facing Sr2ComB, accompanied by their teachers, Mr. Julian Kang Wee Sheng and Cikgu Norafiza Binti Arpai. Simultaneously, Match 4 featured Sr2ScA against Sr2ScH, led by Ms Ooi Ciat Min and Mr Ng Chee Hao.

The winners of these matches, Sr2ScC and Sr2ScH, then advanced to compete against the champions of round one, determining which teams would play for third place and which would battle it out in the grand final.

After a nerve-wrecking yet exciting semi-finals between these four classes, Sr2ScE went on to win the third place finals against Sr2ScH. Last but not least, Sr2ScF clinched the finals as the champion of the Teacher’s Day Dodgebee Competition.

At the end of this event, we gathered some responses from spectators as well as students and teachers involved in this dodgebee competition. We received nothing but positive feedback about this newly introduced event. Amongst the spectators, Isaac Lim from Sr2ScC said,’ It was an exciting match that highlights teamwork between students and teachers, it was also a great opportunity to see a different side of teachers.’ Many players amongst the teams expressed their joy at being able to participate in this new and exciting game, hoping that the competition can become a regular activity held on Teacher’s Day in future years. Though the day was short, it will definitely remain a long-lasting memory for all the students and teachers who participated.
