On the 7th June 2022, Kuen Cheng High School Science Experiment Club organized a science competition that was open to all Kuen Cheng students to take part in. The aim of this competition is to test students based on their science knowledge, as well as encouraging team spirit.

All rounds of the competition were held via Zoom video platform. Both the Junior and Senior contestants entered their respective zoom meeting rooms. Later, they were briefed on the rules of the competition. The person in charge encouraged the contestants to work as a team. Form of communication was not limited, team members were allowed to call or text each other during the competition to discuss their answers. However, googling or other forms of research was forbidden during the competition.

In the preliminary round, contestants are required to answer 40 Multiple Choice Questions via Google Form within 45 minutes. 10 groups who submitted their answers fastest and most accurately would be qualified to the semifinals. But apart from the results, they were more keen towards seeing how well the team members distributed their questions and had discussion among each other.

A major problem most contestants faced was the lack of time, as they considered the questions to be a bit tough and 45 minutes was clearly not enough for some of them to finish all the questions. As a result, quite many teams failed to submit the Google Form in time and were eliminated from the competition.

Semi-final rounds were held the next day, and rules were altered. Contestants had to answer questions that were displayed on the screen. There were a total of 40 questions plus 10 bonus questions. It is basically an oral contest where speed and accuracy win points. The contestants would comment “Me” in the chat box, and the fastest team to comment “Me” after the host entered a dividing line had the right to answer the question displayed. The highest scorer team in the preliminary round had three opportunities to use the privilege to answer the question first and skip the “comment me” session.

However, there were some issues encountered during the semifinals. It was the uncertainty of which team commented “Me” first. This was due to the host and contestants’ unstable internet, thus the results of who commented first were differ among people. This led to some spamming in the chat because all contestants were keen to answer the questions. Another problem was that some of the answers provided by the host were incorrect. Nevertheless, they managed to handle the unforeseen circumstances well and continued with the game. At last, 5 teams made it through the final round of the competition.

The rules were altered a bit in the final round. Only one contestant from the same team was allowed to comment “Me” in the chat. Also, there were only 30 questions plus 5 bonus questions. Regarding the 5 bonus questions, the team who answered wrongly would be deducted 2 points while the team who answered correctly would get 6 points.
