From the 18th to the 22nd of January 2022, Kuen Cheng High School held a Spring Festival Greetings Competition via Zoom video platform. The event was split into three sessions which were the preliminary rounds, the semi-finals and also the final round.
The event started with approximately 80 students joining the preliminary rounds. The participants were then provided with a Google form which included emojis for them to guess the correct Spring Festival greetings. They were also presented with a word search to find some hidden Spring Festival greetings. Many students tried their best but it wasn’t enough. At the end, only a quarter of them made it into the semi-finals.

Questions for preliminary round
For the semi-finals, 20 contestants were randomly divided into groups of five and were assigned into respective breakout rooms. The PowerPoint shared by the host presented the questions and the contestants were to unmute themselves to answer within 5 seconds. Those who got the answer correctly were rewarded with 2 points. The answers were supposed to be four-word greetings, rhyming in AABC, AABB form or carrying a specific message. In the end, the contestant with the most points was declared as the group winner and was granted a ticket to enter the finals.
Questions for semi-finals
Finally, winners of the semi-finals proceed to the finals where the contestants compete using Cosmobuzz. The rules were simple. Questions related to the Spring Festival were asked and the contestants were rewarded with a Chinese character for every correct answer. These characters were then used by the contestants to form Spring Festival greetings, each consisting of four Chinese characters. Whoever structured the most Spring Festival greetings wins. Besides that, contestants also earned a chance to acquire more Chinese characters by obtaining the “Super Red Packet” which aids them in winning the competition.
After an intense battle of Chinese vocabulary, Lew Zheng Sheng of Sr2ScC dominated the competition with an impressive result of 43 Spring Festival greetings, earning himself First Place. The winners of the Spring Festival Greetings Competition are stated below :
